Further Details
Within the framework of the Science and Technology decade (2007-2010) announced by the Egyptian President, Kottamia Observatory of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) and NAOJ participate the worldwide observatories in the celebration of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) on Saturday 24th of October 2009. At Kottamia Observatory, the Egyptian and Japanese pupils will watch the sky by themselves to observe the Moon, Planets and star constellations, each of them use a small telescope, which is about the same size that Galileo used for the first time in 1609 to observe the sky. This small telescope called “Galileoscope”, is designed in Japan for children to have hands-on experiences learning science of astronomy.

The event is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Scientific Research in Egypt (MSR), NRIAG, the Egyptian Ministry Of Education (EMOE), National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), JICA and the Embassy of Japan in Egypt. MHESR on behalf of the Egyptian Government will present the Galileoscopes to the Egyptian and Japanese children during this ceremony.
